(8)The purpose of the fixture plate is to provide a staging area to build part fixtures. Basic 3-2-1 fixturing holds true for most CMM fixturing applications, although the clamping force required to fixture parts when inspecting with a CMM is significantly less than what is required for machining. Most CMM fixtures require only light pressure clamping to secure the part in a fixed position. Our soft touch clamps are perfect for clamping in CMM fixturing applications.
The purpose of the fixture towers are to provide a vertical part fixturing solution for CMM fixturing applications. More specifically, CMM fixture towers are especially beneficial when you have longer parts that need to be oriented in an upright position between 2 or more towers. Fixture towers are also applicable when you have a relatively flat part and you need to inspect each of its sides. In this application, CMM fixturing towers make it possible to fixture the part(s) vertically in 1 fixture setup reducing fixturing time and the number of programs needed from 2 to 1.
